What is Holter Monitoring?

Holter monitoring is a non-invasive method of continuously recording the heart’s electrical activity over an extended period, typically 24–48 hours.

The monitor is a lightweight and wearable device which allows dogs and cats to be monitored in the stress-free environment of their own home.

Holter Monitoring Indications

ARRHYTHMIA CHARACTERISATION

Determining the frequency, severity, and clinical significance of arrhythmias identified in-clinic or on an ECG

INVESTIGATING CLINICAL SIGNS

Investigation of patients presenting with episodic clinical signs suggestive of intermittent arrhythmias, such as weakness, collapse or syncope

SCREENING PREDISPOSED BREEDS

Early detection of arrhythmias in breeds predisposed to cardiomyopathy, such as Dobermans and Boxers, and detection of myocardial hypoxia in cats with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

MONITORING THERAPY

Assessment of heart rate control and optimisation of medical therapy

How Our Holter Monitoring Service Works

1. PATIENT REFERRAL

The primary care vet sends a referral request to PAUS and an appointment is made for the client.

Cases can be booked via phone, email, or online referral.

2. ADMISSION AND
EXAMINATION

The Holter monitor is fitted at the PAUS clinic.

The owner returns this to the clinic after the examination has been completed.

3. READING AND
REPORTING
A specialist reads and reports the results.

PAUS then relays the results to the primary vet.
